T3 vs i2

The other day we were out doing some site surveys for a local police and fire department and we came across a private security guard on a T3. Three of us on i2s and the lady guard on a T3. First of all we noticed that the three i2s we were on could fit into the space of one T3 with space left over, as the T3 is quite a bit bigger. So of course a conversation started.

The guard had not been on a Segway, and was not real happy about the T3 mentioning that it is not easy to stop when you are riding it, and that between the short battery life and the fact that when it breaks down, which this one seemed to be prone to do, that it was not that great.

Turns out the T3 does not back up and has a very wide turning radius (one would expect that from a vehicle of its length and size) and the braking is activated like a bicycle brake with hand grips, unlike the Segway which is just a weight transfer. Its batteries are very big, and though they do come out like a drawer and can be put in an off board charger, that does not always help when it is out on patrol. She was also mentioning that it was prone to flat tires.

Of course Dick took a moment and got her up on the Segway and in no time she was gliding around like a pro. Going backwards and forward and doing pirouettes - Something she could never do on the T3!

It was kind of fun seeing the T3 up close and in person.
